The Richard Holmes Memorial Prize exists to commemorate and celebrate the life and work of Professor Richard Holmes OBE, TD. Professor Holmes was an iconic figure in military history and an early supporter of Waterloo 200, who sadly died in 2010. The prize has been awarded annually from 2013.

Prizes are awarded in two groups, one for 11-14 year-olds (KS 3), and one for students of 16-19 years (KS 5), for original work relating the the Battle of Waterloo and its period. The prize was £200 from 2013-2014, and £300 from 2015.

The winners of the 2014 prize were announced on 18 June 2015. They are:

William Mitchell, Key Stage 5, for his essay To what extent did the garrison of La Haye Sainte facilitate the Anglo-German victory at Waterloo?
