Last week a lovelyMedal plaque was placed in Waterloo Station.  Serjeant Gibson and I went along to see the opening ceremony.  The 9th Duke did the honours and I must say we were all very impressed by this fine memorial organised by The London Mint.   It shows the reverse of the Waterloo Medal designed by Thomas Wyon. It stands on the mezzanine floor opposite Platform 8.  So go and have a look and have a drink on Serjeant Gibson in one of img997the bars there.

Whilst there I met a descendant of  Major Daniel Mackinnon who was in the chateau at Hougoumont on the 18th June 1815.  He was later painted in a group by Denis Dighton, a picture which is in the Royal Collection is of a scene on Horse Guards Parade.  He is on the sixth figure on the right wearing his Waterloo medal.
