20150618_124411On Monday Serjeant Gibson and I went to Belgium for a number of events, not least for the regimental dinner of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment. Serjeant Gibson could not stop talking about the battle of Quatre Bras and showing off his medal. The next day was a tour of Quatre Bras and Waterloo followed by a Waterloo Ball in Brussels.

Then we had the re-opening of Hougoumont, a truly remarkable event. Then a mad cap race to get back for a Banquet in Guildhall run beautifully by the Old Wellingtonian Society. Then20150618_123548 it was the big day in St Paul’s. The service went like clockwork. The church is so good at this sort of thing. We had over 600 descendants present, and 400 teachers and school children who are studying Waterloo. Before going to the reception in Guildhall Serjeant Gibson was insistent that we visit the tomb of The Iron Duke and pay our respects. A wreath had previously been laid by Lord Richard Wellesley.
