Recently I and my wife took the widow of Brigadier Professor Richard Holmes to stay a few nights in the Farm at Hougoumont.  Serjeant Gibson came along too to protect us from the ghosts. He, Richard not Serjeant Gibson, had been a prime mover in the saving of this important site. Until he turned his energy to the matter Hougoumont was a lost cause and would  now be a virtual ruin.

The Landmark Trust run the apartment in the farm and it is exceptionally well arranged and furnished and any keen Waterloo watcher should go and stay there. There is lots to do, almost too much. We suggest you visit https://www.landmarktrust.org.uk/search-and-book/properties/hougoumont-waterloo-24855.

I have mentioned this before see http://ageofrevolution.org/stay-at-hougoumont/.  However although the Landmark Trust apartment is well subscribed visitors to the Farm at Hougoumont are disappointing and are a worry to the authorities.  We all slept well but that may have had more to do with the wine!
