smallRecently Richard Holmes was remembered at the historic site he so valiantly fought to save and succeeded.  He once said that “I  will save Hougoumont even if it kills me”.  The sad thing is that he did indeed die prematurely but we can’t blame Hougoumont.

He would have been thrilled by the result of his early endeavours as it is now a magnificent site and we must applaud all those involved in Belgium and Great Britain.

On a quiet visit his widow, Lizzie, was able to see the historic site and the acknowledgement to Richard within it. She was accompanied by those who have played a part in the Bicentennial activities in 2015. During the visit it became possible to also visit the Landmark trust apartment which was superbly furnished and presented.
