B4 - 52nd LI at WaterlooThe general and I attended an excellent re-opening of the Waterloo Exhibition at Winchester. The Duke of Wellington declared the exhibition open and stated what a good show it was. Notable was the renewed Waterloo Diorama, all 35,500 figures cleaned by hand and now accompanied by a commentary by the lovely Kate Aidie. Also of note was the name WATERLOO spelled out in Waterloo medals, and finally and not to be forgotten, the new painting by Jason Askew showing the 2nd, 95th, and the 52nd demolishing the Imperial Guard. I did ask someone where the 1st Guards were in the picture as they are generally credited with the defeat of the Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard and that’s why they are now called the Grenadier Guards. I got no reply!  The picture is not Jason’s but a picture by William Wollen painted before the War.

The exhibition is excellent and should be visited at the earliest opportunity.  See http://www.rgjmuseum.co.uk/
