EWART MEMORIAL

I was looking at my Waterloo eagle of the 45th of line when I was reminded that I had seen a clip of the unveiling of the Ewart Memorial on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. Go and look at http://www.britishpathe.com/video/ensign-ewart-memorial-in-edinburgh-lner/query/battle+of+waterloo It is interesting to see how the memorial has been amended since 1938 to explain who Ewart was. A year after the battle he was invited to speak in Glasgow and when beginning his speech he said he would have preferred to fight the battle all over again rather than speak to that audience. He died in 1846 aged 76.
