This activity is suitable for students aged 6-14, you can download a free, printable PDF version here.

Students can use a simple animation app like Talkr to give a portrait or sculpture a voice. If they could talk, what would they say about their lives, their ideas or experiences, other people from the time? What questions might they ask the students about life in the 21st Century?

Students can try this with other images from the resource such as the Kongorou or the Waterloo teeth.

Remember to consider the historical context behind the image. Some, such as the Apprehensive Man, for example, may not be appropriate for use with this ‘playful’ approach.
