Mercer GraveThanks to the blog the General has found a Mercer. That’s a relief all round as it was proving difficult. Of further interest we were in Exeter today, having lunch with an eminent historian and one thing led to another and the General discovered that Cavalie Mercer was buried in St David’s Church. So after lunch we made our way to the church where a member of the wellington MonumentWaterloo Association showed us the grave. However, it is in need of urgent work and we need to find £2500 to repair the gravestone and renew the inscriptions around the gravestone. It is a handsome grave and very near to the path leading to the Church West Door. This must be a worthy cause before Waterloo. On the way home we visited the Wellington Monument in the Blackdown Hills near Wellington if that isn’t too convoluted. It was a dull day so no great view.
