Officer’s Helmet from Waterloo

This is the 1812 pattern helmet of a British officer of the 1st Regiment of Life Guards, who fought at Waterloo. The Life Guards, an elite heavy cavalry regiment, were meant to charge into enemy troops and smash their formations. At Waterloo, they fought bravely against the French cavalry but suffered grievous casualties from cannon fire.
