Last night I had the pleasure of visiting Apsley House once more, but this time it was  for a reception held by the National Trust to thank those who have contributed to the restoration of the Wellington Monument in Somerset.  Some £2m plus has so far been raised,  however there is still £1m plus to be raised.  The chairman of The Trust  told us he had scaled the 232 steps inside the monument with the current Duke.

I visited the monument in 2015 but it was all boarded up, at least the base and entrance were.  It will be wonderful when the monument is properly restored so we can climb those 232 steps. I just hope I won’t be too decrepit by the time it is finally completed. It’s a great project.
