South Wales Police Museum

We tell the story of Policing in South Wales from the Celts right through to the present day and hold one of the largest collections of police memorabilia outside London.

Virtual tour includes the Edwardian charge room and our resident inmate Isaac Martin in his cell. See a glimpse of some of the fascinating objects on display in their original setting.

The Museum works closely with schools throughout South Wales, offering tours and activities related to the National Curriculum. These include the Victorian Police, using a real life example to illustrate life as a policeman in Merthyr in the 1860s, and the extended role of the police during World War 2.

    Visits to the South Wales Police Museum are by appointment only. The Museum is open from Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm.

    Out of hours visits in the evenings or at weekends are welcome providing prior notice is given.
