Sir Richard Arkwright’s Cromford Mills
Cromford Mills has been described as the most preserved textile heritage site in the world. It is from here that Sir Richard Arkwright developed technology that changed the world by creating the modern factory system.
Following 50 years of dilapidation the site has been rescued by the Arkwright Society which saved it from demolition and secured World Heritage status.
Today the Arkwright Society relies on fundraising and it’s own income generation to continue to maintain, manage and restore Cromford mills.
