Fort Amherst Heritage Trust

Fort Amherst, based in Chatham, Medway, Kent, is Britain’s largest Napoleonic Fortress and provides a great day out for all the family.

Visitors can enjoy:
• Over 300 years of military history with an amazing network of underground passageways, historic buildings and gun emplacements all set in 20 acres of beautiful parkland.
• Take a tour of the incredible tunnel defences, enjoy some light refreshments in our Café or take a stroll to the highest point of the Fort and enjoy the spectacular views over the River Medway and the towns of Chatham and Rochester beyond.

Entry Charges

Free entry for visitors for the parklands. Please check entry charges for the Guided Tunnel tours before visiting.

 
  • Opening Hours

    The parkland grounds of Fort Amherst are open free of charge 7 days a week from dawn to dusk.

    Tunnel Tours take place every day at 11.00am and 2.00pm. Additional tours may be run at busy times. Please see our Tunnel Tours page for further information and to book.
