I read in today’s Country Life that Lieutenant Sir Thomas Picton’s old home in Carmarthenshire is about to go under the hammer. Iscoed Mansion was bought by Picton in 1804 but sadly now it is something of a ruin.  It remained in the Picton family until 1919.

Whilst much of the estate has been sold off in different packets the ruin of the mansion remains derelict and hence on the market by auction. Amazingly the guide price is £400k but I should think you would need £2m to restore it. He was a rough old fellow and probably would have lived very frugally.

As readers will know he was mortally wounded at Waterloo. See his hat he was wearing at the battle.http://ageofrevolution.org/200-object/pictons-hat-musketball-that-killed-him/#
