Special guest speak Henry Yallop will deliver the first in a series of 2020 Fort talks when he presents on The Edged Weapons of Waterloo at the Royal Armouries museum, Fort Nelson.

Henry Yallop, Royal Armouries Keeper of Edged Weapons and Armour, has a lifelong passion for arms, armour and military history, and is an expert in the development, use and effect of arms and armour, especially relating to European edged weapons and archery.

With bayonet, lance and sword, the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars saw huge armies using vast numbers of edged weapons. This talk will examine the Battle of Waterloo and seek to identify the most unusual types and forms of edged weapons found in the hands of the common soldier during the period. Henry will conclude with how they were used and consider how effective they really were.
