This photo is of Serjeant James Livesey, an old Horse Gunner,  in old age but as you can see wearing his Waterloo medal. His story is a fascinating one and is explained at length on the On Line Book Company’s website: http://www.theonlinebookcompany.com/OnlineBooks/Waterloo/Celebrations/DescendantsStories/510

He was in Bull’s Troop at Waterloo and both his troop (battery) and Norman Ramsay’s were badly knocked about and both Bull and Ramsay were killed.

But Livesey had been in Ramsay’s troop in the Peninsular and after the battle he went to recover his body. Extraordinarily he had the body preserved in brandy and took it all the way back to Ramsay’s home in Inveresk where he was properly buried. It is an extraordinary story and well worth reading in full on the link.
