The Returning Soldier

Londoners are being treated to a very modern take on the life of a soldier, as a thought-provoking piece of street art, ‘The Returning Soldier’, was unveiled in Shoreditch to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo (18 June 2015). Watch this video to find out more about the project.
The unique artwork, commissioned by the National Army Museum, measures 20×3 metres and took 16 hours to create. Featuring a series of representations of the soldier over the last 200 years, the work explores Britain’s changing attitudes to military service and the role of British soldiers. It is inspired by the Battle of Waterloo, the first time that every soldier was awarded a medal, regardless of rank or role.
